A popular diet that has surfaced over the past few years is the keto diet. The keto, or ketogenic, diet involves eating food that is very low in carbs in order to burn fat. The name comes from the word “ketones,” which are small molecules that the body makes to use as fuel when sugar supply is low. After a period of time eating little to no sugar, the liver converts fat molecules into ketones, which are then sent to the muscles, brain, and other organs to be used as fuel. While on the ketogenic diet, the body adjusts to using ketones as its main fuel source, so a lot of fat is burned quickly. Typical foods eaten on the keto diet that are low in carbs include meat, eggs, cheese, and vegetables.
When following any diet, it can be a lot of work to cook your own food and stick with the rules of the diet. The good news is that there are many different meal delivery kits that offer keto-friendly meal plans.
1. Keto Fridge/Keto Frozen
Keto Fridge is a meal delivery service that offers 100% ketogenic meals delivered directly to your doorstep. These meals are ready to heat and eat, and the menu changes every week. Not only does Keto Fridge offer delicious meals, but they also have a bakery where they make cookies, cakes, scones, and even donuts that are all keto-friendly. Simply order a minimum of $69 worth of meals and treats by Thursday at 11:59 PM EST to have your meals delivered by Tuesday or Wednesday the next week. Each meal typically costs around $9 to $18.
Unfortunately, Keto Fridge is temporarily sold out of its meals but is in the process of moving to a larger facility that will enable the company to ramp up production.
2. Ketoned Bodies
Ketoned Bodies is a service that offers only sustainable, organic, and grass-fed meats that contain no gluten, added sugar, or preservatives. The meals are shipped overnight in insulated packages with dry ice to ensure they stay frozen until they reach your door. Once received, simply heat up the meals in the convenient microwave or oven-safe containers and enjoy. Ketoned Bodies offers a range of packages to choose from, or you can buy the meals individually at about $15 per meal.
3. Green Chef
Green Chef is the perfect meal delivery service for those who love to cook but don’t have the time for meal prep. They delivery organic ingredients so you can cook keto meals at home, usually in about 30 minutes or less. Green Chef features a new menu each week and also makes other diet meal plans such as paleo and vegan. The meals usually cost about $13 each, and you can choose which day of the week you would like your meals to be delivered.
4. Terra’s Kitchen
Terra’s Kitchen takes the word sustainability to a whole new level. Not only do they offer delicious, completely ketogenic recipes, but the ingredients are also delivered in reusable containers with built-in insulation. Simply set the box on your doorstep the next day and somebody will be by to pick it up, ready to be reused for the next person. Each meal can be made in 30 minutes or less, and all of the ingredients come pre-chopped. Plans start at $72 per week.
Sadly, Terra’s Kitchen went out of business and filed for bankruptcy shortly after we published this article.
